Social Media Management Pricing 2026: What It Costs

Published: 29 October 2026 · Last updated: 29 October 2026 · By Ameer Hamza

Two social media quotes for "management" can differ by thousands of dollars a month and still both be fair. The difference is almost always in what is delivered: how many platforms, how many posts, whether content is created from scratch, whether someone answers comments, and whether paid ads are included. Price the deliverables, not the label.

The short answer: as industry estimates, freelancers often charge about $500 to $2,000 a month, and agencies about $1,000 to $5,000 a month for small and mid-sized businesses, with larger programmes at $10,000 or more. Ad spend is almost always paid separately. The right price depends on platforms, posting volume, content creation, community management and paid ads.

Replying to comments and messages

Depends on volume and response time

Paid ads management

Freelancer

Lower cost, direct contact

One person's skills and hours; cover for holidays

Agency

Designers, writers and ads specialists in one team; continuity

Higher monthly fee; check who actually does the work

In-house hire

Full-time focus, deep brand knowledge

Salary plus employer costs, tools and training; one person rarely covers design, video and ads

Costs That Are Usually Not in the Quote

  • Ad spend: paid directly to the platforms, on top of the management fee.

  • Photo and video shoots: on-location filming is usually priced separately.

  • Influencer fees: paid to the creator, not the agency.

  • Paid tools: stock images, music licences or premium scheduling tools.

  • Extra revisions or rush work: check what the package includes.

Rules Your Social Media Partner Must Follow

Paid or gifted promotion must be clearly labelled. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission says connections with a brand must be disclosed clearly, with the post itself, using plain words such as "ad" or "sponsored". In the UK, the Competition and Markets Authority's guidance says businesses should take responsibility for making sure paid endorsements that promote them are properly labelled as ads. Ask any agency how it handles disclosures before it runs influencer or user-generated campaigns for you.

6 Questions to Ask Before You Sign

  1. How many posts, platforms and formats are included each month?

  2. Who creates the content, and how many revisions do I get?

  3. Is ad spend included, and what is the ads management fee?

  4. How fast are comments and messages answered?

  5. Which numbers will you report each month, and do they include leads?

  6. What is the minimum term and notice period?

Frequently Asked Questions

How much should a small business spend on social media management?

Many small businesses start at about $500 to $1,500 a month for one or two platforms, as an industry estimate, then increase spend as results come in.

Is ad spend included in social media management pricing?

Usually not. Ad spend is paid to the platforms; the agency charges a separate fee to manage the ads.

How many posts per month should I get?

Commonly 8 to 20 posts a month per platform, depending on the package. Consistency matters more than volume.

How long before social media management shows results?

Engagement can improve within the first one to three months. Leads and sales usually take longer, especially without paid ads.

Should I sign a long contract?

A short first term lets you test the fit. Agree clear deliverables and reports so you can judge results.
